Houston Public Works Press Release

"Imagine a Day Without Water" Tik Tok Contest Winners

October 10, 2022

Houston Public Works announces the winners of the “Imagine a Day Without Water” TikTok Contest. Imagine a Day Without Water is a national day of education and advocacy about the value of water. Dozens of entries were received to highlight the importance and value of water in Houston. Applicants had to follow the City of Houston TikTok channel @cityofhouston, and live in the Greater Houston Area. Each participant’s TikTok entry must also use the hashtag #ValueWaterHouston.

  • 1st place ($1,000 prize): Mimi diLuna (@mimidiluna) TikTok featured an original rap about turning off the tap while brushing your teeth, washing your hands, and cleaning dishes.

  • 2nd place ($500 prize): Gabriela Gonzalez (@not_able.to.create) Tik Tok featured cartoon compilation of aliens visiting Earth and the dangers of wasting water.

  • 3rd place ($250 prize) Holden Aramburu (@holdinholden) TikTok featured a video compilation of locations around Houston that feature water.

“TikTok is becoming a great social media tool to spread awareness about the importance of water, and why conservation efforts are so important, no matter how big or small the effort,” said Houston Public Works Director Carol Haddock. “I applaud the winners and all the entries for the time and effort to showcase the value of water and why it’s important for Houston now, and in the future.”

Later this month, Houston Public Works, and our partner, Grundfos, will host a charity walk to fight water insecurity around the world. The Walk for Water event, scheduled on Saturday, October 29, 2022, will spread awareness for those around the world without access to clean drinking water. The non-profit Water Mission receives 100% of funds raised through the event to build safe water solutions in developing nations and disaster areas. We walk, so others don’t have to. For more information and to register for the Walk visit bit.ly/2022Walk4WaterHouston. When you register, be sure to select “Join a Team” and join the Houston Public Works Team! Registration is $25 and includes entry into the event and a t-shirt.
